The Power of Your Beliefs
Let’s start with an example. Imagine a man named Randy. Randy
works a lot, a lot more than he has to. Evenings, weekends, it’s
always about his job. And even when he’s not working, he’s
thinking about work. Now, if you ask Randy what he believes the most
important thing in his life is, he’ll tell you, “family
first.” But with his schedule, he barely gets to see his wife
and kids at all. So despite what Randy says, it’s pretty obvious
that his life speaks the truth: Randy believes that work is more
important that just about anything, family included.
The reason it’s important to become aware of your beliefs
is that they fuel the choices that create your life experience.
This is so because your brain can’t have it any other way.
What you believe MUST manifest in the choices you make because
the brain cannot deal with inconsistency.
The irony is that your beliefs will reflect in your life experience
even if your beliefs aren’t working for you,
and even if they cause you pain.
This is because the brain doesn’t differentiate between what
feels good, and what doesn’t, what you say you want and what
you don’t. The brain just knows that beliefs=choices=experience.
Now I know what some you may be saying: “How about random
events, things like natural disasters, accidents, things that just
happen?”
Well yes, there are random events. But
even here, how you choose to perceive these is based on your beliefs.
Surely you know people who’ve come through the toughest situations
with the strength of a positive attitude. That positive response
is based on one’s beliefs; one’s beliefs determine
one’s responses to the random events of life.
Again beliefs=choices=experience.
That makes you 100% responsible 100%
of the time, either in what you choose to create, or how it is
that you respond to what happens.
So ask yourself right now: what top three beliefs reflect your
deepest values?
Then imagine that you can soar above your life and take in a bird’s
eye.
Do these beliefs reflect what is happening in your life? Do they
match the choices that you make?
If not, what is your life telling you about what you really believe?
What adjustments can you make so that your beliefs and your choices
can begin to line up and move in the direction that is right for
you?
The goal is to be grounded in integrity, where your beliefs translate
into the choices you make everyday. Yes, it’s a process,
but committing to living in this way frees your energy to create
the life you really want to live.
Until next time…
Be well!
